I know that the pistons on an 88' 944 and 88' 924S are higher compression and thus delivers a little bit more horsepower but I want to know would it be the same as getting a set of high compression pistons from an 88' motor and putting them into an 83' motor and change out the steel exhaust manifolds for the stock tubular exhaust manifold from an 88'? Would that basically give you the same motor? The high compression pistons from a 88 motor are the same ones you would get in a Euro spec motor. They came in the 83-84 motors in Europe. You can just change the pistons in that motor to get the higher compression. When you do this look at the number stamped on the piston and on the face of the block-ie # 0, or 1. This is a tolerance # for that block and the pistons should have the same #. Not super critical but I like them to match up. That's just how I am. I hope this info is helpful to you. Also you can drop 88 pistons in any year block. You just need to match the tolerance group of the piston to the block. The tolerance group is just a fine tune of the size of piston to match the size of the bore. There are 3 tolerance groups with 0,1, 2 with 0 and 1 being most common. Blocks and pistons are stamped with the tolerance group and you can only see it with the head off.
