TV Rants And Raves 7.13.11: Trials & Tribulations
And with that out of the way, let's quickly move on to yet another TV Rants and Raves. As always, I'm the guy that writes this thing and winds up getting kicked around in the comments section as a result, Ben Piper. While I'll admit I have a dearth of subjects to talk about this week, we'll hopefully make do with what the world and the current events within present us to work off of. And who knows, maybe we'll have some fun along the way. After all, you'll never know until you try. The Casey Anthony Trial Coverage : Apparently this was the most watched live trial feed since O.J. back in the early 90's. Sensationalistic and scandalous. A young attractive single mother, that was painted as fed up with having to look after and raise her little two year old adorable girl properly and would rather party and have indiscriminant sex with multiple partners supposedly murdered the wee one, used one of her parents to help cover up the crime and didn't report the child missing for a month. Okay, that alone, that previous paragraph that I just wrote? Kinda sickened, just by recounting the facts as I scantly know them. It's a horrendously loathsome prospect and notion all across the board. I personally have little ones in my life that I love and adore very much, and its simple human nature to take this situation as presented and project it into each of our own lives. It's the worst thing to do to yourself; what if? The death of any child is a tragedy. The murder of one is horrendous. The notion of the mother being responsible? Reprehensible. As such I didn't want to know or be privy to any of the salacious details that were sure to come out as a result, as I knew that on an emotional level it would mess with me to know or to think about it too much. So while I was aware of the trial and the long lead up to it and kept hearing about it in the media, either on the internet or on TV? Didn't want to or needed to know, if I'm again going to be quite honest. And as I flipped through the news channels I was stunned by what I saw. It looked and seemed like I was watching the unnamed Histrionic-Fest 2011. Big over the top emotions and pounding your fist on the table anger and indignant at this great injustice that took place. This video is about the massacre at Wounded Knee, using a song recorded and performed by the group “Homestead and Wolfe” in 1975, entitled “See The Children Die”. In July 2011, a member of that group, Ted Larson, visited Little Bighorn National Monument and took the pictures seen in this video. Thus, two important events are tied together: 1) Little Bighorn memorializes one the Sioux and Cheyenne’s last armed efforts in 1876, where hundreds of 7th Calvary, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer, lost their lives after being surrounded by several thousand Lakota, and Cheyenne warriors; and, 2) Fourteen years later, in 1890, at the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the 7th Calvary massacred hundreds of men, women and children.
