While waiting for the food to arrive Sunday night, PUSH delivered two huge bags of nearly new shoes and clean t shirts for the homeless and working poor. Reportedly from several of the people waiting, a vendor from the plaza, not one of the artists, sauntered over and filled up a bag with shoes and shirts, smirked at the others gathered around and went back to his table of crap. By the time PUSH got over there to confront him he had gone leaving his “assistant” in charge. Next Sunday, during the distribution of shirts and shoes, PUSH will monitor the donations with help from the regular homeless citizens who know who’s who. PUSH will also confront this vendor about this shameless activity if he is there.
We can ALWAYS use clean and folded t shirts and decent athletic shoes in all sizes. Call 823-9585 and someone will come and pick up the items and make sure they go to people who truly need them.
We also had our usual "bike by" by the SAPD although there was no evidence this time of photo surveillance.
