June 20, 2007 - William Healey Memorial

Sponsored by People United to Stop Homelessness

In May of this year, William Healey Jr., a 34 year old homeless Air Force veteran took his own life by laying on the railroad tracks in west St. Augustine. No family could be located and the local VA office arranged for a military funeral, attended only by his social worker. About 30 people gathered at the Gazebo in La Plaza de la Constitucion to pay tribute to William, including his friends and co-workers. A memorial sign bearing his name and dates of birth and death was placed in front of the gazebo with a wreath and a flag flying at half mast.
