On November 1, Sumner Gray from P U S H was one of two presenters on homelessness hosted by Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville as a Work Day Initiative. Approximately 25 students attended.

First speaker was Jeanette Ghioto, Vice President of Development from the Sulzbacher Center who described services and philosophy of the center including: stable income, stable healthcare and stable housing.

Their outreach van is on the streets everyday and there are 118 housing sites throughout Jacksonville. She invited anyone to call her to visit and recommended reading the Ten Year Plan Duval County is using.

Sumner Gray, co-founder of P U S H: People United to Stop Homelessness, spoke of the humane aspects of helping other people. He stated the homeless have rights and brought up tenant rights as one issue the law students could address. He spoke briefly of ordinances passed recently in St Augustine and outlined the philosophy behind Food Not Bombs, a national organization with no structure whose mission is just to feed hungry people in public places. He mentioned police abuse of homeless sleeping in public and the harassment of the homeless camps in Miami as well as the recent arrest of a Food Not Bombs server in Orlando who violated the city ordinance against serving over 25 people by dishing out a 26th bowl of soup.
